Shakespeare plays CLEOPATRA on stage

A view of the stage, with a sign telling us that we are in Cleopatra's palace in Ancient Egypt. Shakespeare is centre-stage, performing as Cleopatra dressed in Egyptian style. He looks cheerful as he gives Alexas his orders. Two other actors play Cleopatra's female companions looking on with wry smiles

[Enter Cleopatra, Alexas, Charmian and Iras]

CLEOPATRA Where is he?

ALEXAS I did not see him since.

CLEOPATRA See where he is, who's with him, what he does;
I did not send you. If you find him sad,
Say I am dancing; if in mirth, report
That I am sudden sick. Quick, and return.

[Exit Alexas]
