Shakespeare plays HENRY VI on stage

A view of the stage, with a sign telling us that we are at the battle of Towton. Shakespeare is centre-stage, performing as Henry dressed in medieval style. He looks sorrowful, his hands clasped to his breast. Around him other members of the cast enact tragic scenes of death and grief

HENRY How will the country, for these woeful chances,
Misthink the King, and not be satisfied?

SON Was ever son so rued a father's death?

FATHER Was ever father so bemoaned his son?

HENRY Was ever king so grieved for subjects' woe?
Much is your sorrow; mine, ten times so much.

Henry VI part 3, Act 2 Scene 5
